During the 2024-25 academic year, 100+ University of Iowa students, faculty, and staff have worked with the cities of West Burlington and Burlington to create concrete plans for a more resilient future. Through a partnership with the UI's Initiative for Sustainable Communities, the talents, creativity, and energy of tomorrow's leaders have been applied to projects in the arts, engineering, policy, planning, and more.
On May 8, community members and anyone interested in the partnership are invited to attend the students' presentations and then join city leaders, students, and other guests for a celebration of this special collaboration.
Student presentations occur from 3:00 to 3:45 and 4:00 to 4:45 at multiple locations in downtown Burlington. The closing celebration is from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Art Center of Burlington.
Project presentation topics:
- Arts and Culture Master Plan
- Shared Services Study
- Transportation and Land Use Plan
- Adaptive Reuse of the Dial Soap Building
- Park Plans for South Riverfront
- Burlington Parks and Recreation Facility Design
