Biography

Alex Scott worked as a photojournalist and a photo editor at ABC News and Bloomberg News in New York before returning to academia and completing his Ph.D. at The University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on the construction of social difference in non-fiction visual practice. He analyzes the patterns and implications of pictorial conventions that distinguish groups of people along axes of race, gender, class, ethnicity, and sexuality. His current research is focused on representations of migration around the U.S. southern border. Other research interests include visual theory, the history of photojournalism, migration studies, and sports media.
