Ottumwa - Community Health Fair
College of Nursing students will partner with the City of Ottumwa to plan and implement a community health fair that promotes health, wellness, and disease prevention for residents of all ages.
Building on community assessment activities completed during the fall semester, the project team will collaborate with local partners to deliver evidence-informed health education, screenings, and community resources tailored to Ottumwa's identified health priorities.
The project team will assess community health needs, review population health data, engage with local stakeholders, and develop portable educational exhibits focused on priority health topics. These resources will be brought together through a community health fair in the spring where nursing students will provide health education, conduct appropriate health screenings, connect residents with local services, and promote healthy lifestyles.
Potential health education topics may include healthy aging, fall prevention, blood pressure and heart health, diabetes prevention, medication safety, nutrition, mental wellness, caregiver support, and heat and hydration safety. Educational topics will be refined based on Ottumwa's community health priorities identified through the assessment process.
