The pressure is on for 22-year-old Anthony Hartman.
Hartman, a lifelong Dubuque resident, works as a delivery driver for FedEx, and he’s currently in the market for a new rental unit. He’s looking for a clean, affordable downtown place … but so is everyone else, and the city’s housing stock can’t keep up.
“It’s not in my budget to be spending $1,000 a month or more on rent, so I’ve been looking in some of the older parts of town,” Hartman said. “And that’s totally fine with me, but the problem is that I could be competing with 30, 40 or 50 other people for the exact same unit.”
