Keosauqua Building Rehabilitation
Students in a senior capstone project in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering created plans to rehabilitate an abandoned building in Keosauqua, Iowa. The team responded to the client's request to maintain a facade that matches the overall look and feel of the historic downtown; provide residential apartments on the second floor; and create a first-floor restaurant.
The current building has been abandoned for some time and it has debris on the first floor and in the basement. Current structural changes need to be made in order to create a safe building and respond to the new uses requested by the client. Some of these changes include moving an interior staircase, providing ADA-compliant entrances, and removing current walls. The team provided three choices to the client with progressive costs and project complexity.
