As part of the Senior Design Capstone Course in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the students had the opportunity to complete the engineering plans for locating and constructing ball fields, new trails, parking facilities, and ancillary structures for the city of Washington.

In 2012, the City of Washington adopted a Comprehensive Plan developed by RDG Planning and Design, Inc. The plan calls for the location of a “wellness park” that would provide space for organized rec-reation such as baseball, softball, soccer playing fields, a multi-use open space, tennis courts, sand volleyball and ample parking. The city will provide the infrastructure such as roads, parking lots and walking trails, field house and concession structures (see figure 8 for concept plan). According to RDG, “The Wellness Park project is a once in a lifetime investment and is vital to the attractiveness of the community and its future growth.”
