I teach courses in environmental literary studies, public humanities, and European literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with emphases in media studies, information theory, and environmental history. My most recent book, Ossianic Unconformities: Bardic Poetry in the Industrial Age (Virginia UP, 2015), explores a modern quest to locate vestiges of ancient poetry in the landscapes of an industrial world. My more recent publications continue to study the intersections of environmental and literary history in Scottish and French romanticism. I have also published several co-authored articles that apply methods from geographical information science, computational linguistics, and network modelling to the print archive of Scottish industrialization.

Sarah Hofmeyer is an assistant professor in the School of Planning and Public Affairs. Her research addresses government action and administrative burden in the United States agri-food system. Her work focuses on developing a more sustainable, stewarding, and community-centered food system.

Ali Hval (she/her) (b. 1993, Sacramento, CA) is a visual artist currently living and working in Iowa City, Iowa. She earned her MFA from the University of Iowa in Painting and Drawing with honors, and BFA in Painting from the University of Alabama with honors. Her work is interdisciplinary, combining ceramic, fabric, installation, and painting. The forms and materials she uses reflect her interest in adornment and the relentless critique and politicization of the body. Ali has completed over 30 public murals and projects in various communities across the US. These murals have ranged from large-scale projects for nonprofits and municipal entities, to projects which have directly involved community members in the painting and designing process.
