Bondurant - Grain District Silo Adaptive Reuse

For their capstone project, Civil and Environmental Engineering students examined potential reuse of two six-pack silos in Bondurant.

In 2024, the City of Bondurant adopted its nationally award-winning Grain District Downtown Redevelopment Plan, and implementation is underway to transform the 24-acre former farming cooperative into a cohesive extension of downtown Bondurant. While the plan envisions long-term reuse of two six-pack silo clusters as a hotel and condominium development, the City is also interested in exploring more incremental redevelopment opportunities.

For this project, the engineering team examined the potential reuse of the ground-floor areas of the two six-pack silos, including structural, building, fire code considerations, and potential layouts and uses. The team also designed penthouse housing as an option to use the top level of the silos.
