Bondurant - Trail Design Projects
For their capstone project in Civil & Environmental Engineering, a team of students designed multi-use trail connections and trail segments as well as developed engineering designs and cost estimates for the City of Bondurant.
As a growing community, Bondurant has the opportunity to increase recreation opportunities for residents and visitors. This project included the following components:
- The City of Bondurant sought a detailed design of the Pleasantview Park trails. The City’s Pleasantview Park Master Plan was adopted in 2025 and shows how the 8.6-acre area west of the future elementary school will be developed by the City so that it becomes a neighborhood park with a playground, fishing pier, and trail connectivity. As part of the IISC project, the student team created detailed plans created for the trails (both paved and non-paved areas).
- The team also created designs and plans for a trail within an agricultural buffer along the western portion of the Ross Certified Site, providing critical neighborhood connections to the regional trail system while balancing future development, buffering, and open space considerations.
The team created designs and plans for a trail extension that continues south of the Chichaqua Valley Trail and then follows Mud Creek toward Grant Street South in the area of 10th Street SE. The land along this corridor is owned by both the City of Bondurant and the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District.
These designs strengthened connections between schools, neighborhoods, and the regional trail network.
