West Branch - Downtown Streetscape

For their capstone project in Civil and Environmental Engineering, a team of students worked to improve the functioning of downtown area streets by creating updated designs for downtown roads and sidewalks.

The design recommendations improved ADA accessibility, utilities, and streetscapes in downtown West Branch while preserving its historic character and enhancing its appeal as a destination. Project tasks included data collection, field assessments, concept development, overall design, and coordination. Key recommendations include prioritizing ADA accessibility, upgrading utilities, strategically reducing parking where necessary to improve traffic flow and overall downtown functionality, and introducing new lighting and greenery throughout the area.
