Bloomfield - Lake Fisher Park Engineering & Design

As part of their Senior Design Capstone Course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students designed improvements to Lake Fisher Recreation Area in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Located just west of Bloomfield in Davis County, Iowa, Lake Fisher Park encompasses approximately 322 acres of natural and recreational space, including an 82-acre man-made lake that serves as a popular destination for fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, and camping. The City of Bloomfield seeks to enhance the site’s infrastructure and amenities to support expanded outdoor recreation, eco-tourism, and community engagement, while preserving the lake’s environmental integrity.

The project included the design of ADA-compliant trails, upgraded boat ramps and kayak launches, expanded campgrounds, improved trail connectivity, and modernized restrooms, along with new recreational features such as multi-use courts, beach volleyball areas, outdoor adventure zones, multi-use shelters, and an expansion of the existing disc golf course. An assessment of water quality and sedimentation was conducted to guide sustainable management practices, and civil and environmental engineering expertise was applied to ensure resilient infrastructure. Phasing plans and cost estimates were included in the final deliverables.
