Granger - Public Safety Building

As part of their Senior Design Capstone Course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students designed a Public Safety Building to meet the needs of the growing city of Granger.

Currently the Granger Fire & EMS Department shares a small building on Main Street with Granger City Hall and an adjacent trailer serves as headquarters for the Granger Police Department. These departments have outgrown their current spaces and seek a new building that will house all three departments.

The Civil & Environmental Engineering project team worked closely with staff from the City of Granger and Granger Fire & EMS to create designs for a building to house Granger Fire & EMS, Police, and City Hall. The final devlierable includes the presentation to city council, report, designs, poster, and cost estimates.

The proposed facility provides significant benefits to the City of Granger and the surrounding community. By consolidating Fire and EMS, Police, and City Hall functions into a single building, the design improves communication and coordination between departments, resulting in faster and more efficient emergency response. Enhanced response times contribute to improved public safety and may reduce risk and insurance costs for residents and businesses.

The facility is also designed to support future growth, allowing departments to expand staffing and services as the city develops. Public-facing spaces provide opportunities for community outreach, education, and engagement, strengthening relationships between residents and first responders. Additionally, the project is expected to contribute to local economic growth through construction activity and long-term investment, while positioning the city to better serve surrounding areas through expanded emergency services.
