Condominimum Design & Engineering

As part of their Senior Design Capstone course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students designed a multi-family residential structure for a specific site in Mason City.

At the request of the City of Mason City, civil and environmental engineering students created site and structural designs for a high rise condominium.  The project provides a development scenario for a local landowner trying to attract investment to a condominium project on her property, which could benefit the Mason City community through the attraction of new families and an increased tax base.  The property is situated on a unique tract of land overlooking the Winnebago River, with a scenic and natural setting within the city boundaries.

The students were tasked with both site development and design of the structure.  In all, the project includes site design, access road design, parking lot design, and structural design. For each element of the design, the students created 3D renderings and cost estimates.  The final design provides 40 units on the site, and all tasks for the site adhere to appropriate codes specified by the City of Mason City.
