West Branch – West Branch Community School District Policy Briefs
Undergraduate students enrolled in Public Policy and Persuasion will work with the West Branch Community School District to develop policy briefs for issues currently facing the school district.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): With the rapid increase of AI tools being used in school settings, one group of Policy and Persuasion students will examine the opportunities and challenges for the district in utilizing AI platforms. Students will offer recommendations for AI policies and suggestions for resources that address the ways k-12 students themselves are utilizing AI platforms in school.
Bullying: West Branch Community School District is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students at school. One group of Policy and Persuasion students will consider best practices in preventing and addressing bullying in k-12 schools. The group will focus on program and policy proposals to support a proactive model for the district that encourages a positive learning environment for all and mitigates bullying.
Mental Health: One group of Policy and Persuasion students will focus on understanding current mental health resources for students in West Branch. Students will document the resources already in place and the challenges students and families face in the context of broader cultural and social dynamics that influence mental health in the community. They will propose policies and resources for strengthening mental health supports in the West Branch schools.
Workforce Preparedness: West Branch Community School District seeks to support workforce preparedness for students in a cohesive way that aligns with educational standards and best practices. As the district strives to meet the varied educational needs and interests of its student body, one group of Policy and Persuasion students will analyze West Branch's current offerings that support workforce readiness and make suggestions for next steps to increase offerings that meet the emerging needs of the workers of the future.
