Granger - Parks & Recreation Master Plan
Urban Regional Planning graduate students in the School of Planning & Public Affairs will partner with the City of Granger to create a Parks and Recreation master plan that provides a comprehensive vision for Granger’s local park system, recreation facilities, natural resources, and other public open spaces.
Granger - Community Park and Recreation Center Designs and Plans
As part of their Senior Design Capstone course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students will create designs and plans for a 26-acre park and recreation building in Granger, Iowa.
Maquoketa - Baseball and Softball Quadplex Design and Plans
For their capstone project in Civil & Environmental Engineering, a team of students completed a preliminary design for a baseball and softball quadplex in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Bondurant - Eagle Park & Bluejay Landing Park Integrated Design Project
As part of their Senior Design Capstone Course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students provided design and analysis support for an integrated parks and environmental engineering project along Mud Creek in Bondurant.
Bondurant - Cleaveland Park Improvements
For their capstone project in Civil and Environmental Engineering, a team of students evaluated upgrades to enable future improvements for Cleaveland Park in Bondurant.
Stormwater constraints currently restrict improvements to Cleaveland Park. Students evaluateed potential stormwater upgrades within the park parcel and the surrounding area that could enable future park improvements. Students prepared detailed design plans to support development of Cleaveland Park as a neighborhood public amenity.
Bondurant - Trail Design Projects
For their capstone project in Civil & Environmental Engineering, a team of students designed multi-use trail connections and trail segments as well as developed engineering designs and cost estimates for the City of Bondurant.
As a growing community, Bondurant has the opportunity to increase recreation opportunities for residents and visitors. This project included the following components:
Manchester Riverbank Parks Engineering and Design
For their capstone project in Civil and Environmental Engineering, a team of students created designs for an underutilized greenspace in Manchester adjacent to the Maquoketa River.
Bondurant - Establishing a "Friends of the Parks" Nonprofit
Public Affairs graduate students in the School of Planning & Public Affairs partnered with the City of Bondurant, Iowa to support the creation of a "Friends of the Parks" nonprofit organization.
As Bondurant continues to grow and invest in its parks and recreation system, city leaders recognize the value of a community-based nonprofit that can deepen resident engagement, increase volunteerism, and expand fundraising opportunities to enhance and sustain local parks, trails, and recreational programming.
West Burlington Trailhead Park Design
Two urban & regional graduate students in the School of Planning & Public Affairs worked closely with the West Burlington Trails Committee to design a unique and multi-faceted trailhead park at a prominent community location.

Burlington - South Riverfront Park Redesign
For their capstone project in Civil and Environmental Engineering, a team of students created engineering and design plans for a park to be located on a former industrial site. Located adjacent to the Mississippi River, the project had several obstacles, notably possible soil contamination and flooding. The team reviewed the site, selected amenities that worked with these challenges, and made recommendations for ways to incorporate the historic rail yard that formerly stood at the site.
Burlington - Parks and Forestry Facility Design and Engineering
For their capstone project, three senior Civil and Environmental Engineering students designed a Parks and Forestry facility that prioritizes energy efficiency, long-term durability, and architectural integration with the natural park environment in which the facility will be located.
